Clayton Equipment Ltd makes a range of battery locomotives from 1.75 tonnes through to 40 tonnes.

In February 2006, four small battery locomotives named Walter, Lou, Anne and Kitty were supplied to Metronet to be run on The London Underground’s Waterloo and City lines. They are used for hauling materials and equipment and were specially designed and built for work in narrow tunnels with tight curves and steep gradients.
